Cancer survivors who closely follow a Mediterranean diet have a 32% lower risk of all-cause mortality than those who don’t, researchers reported in study findings published in JACC: CardioOncology. They also linked adherence to the diet to lower cardiovascular mortality but not cancer mortality.
Lisocabtagene maraleucel (Breyanzi®) was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2021 for patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL), high-grade B-cell lymphoma, primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, and grade IIIB follicular lymphoma. In 2022, the FDA expanded its approval for the initial indication to include those with refractory disease or relapse within 12 months of first-line chemoimmunotherapy who are not eligible for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Mucositis is a common side effect of many cancer treatments, with incidence rates of 40% in patients receiving chemotherapy, 80% in patients receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantations, and up to 100% in patients receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. The literature reports mucositis less frequently with targeted agents and immunotherapies; however, it should be considered in an advance practice provider’s approach to overall immune-related adverse event prevention, assessment, and management.
